now im not wanting to turn this into a ems based fire suppression/ect. argument.

I currently have an option to go to a company that is both EMS and Fire, as paid full time.

Im currently a volly with a county fire/ems program. To this point other than some crash rescue training, i haven't done much with the FD.
Any ideas, thoughts?
Good choice, bad choice comments backed up by reasons of course.

I have not worked as paid since i was injured in oct 07.

lets just 700+lb Pt. bad situation, bad footing, and ended with a back injury that has since healed.

Mark.

The FD doesn't require certification or will they send you through that? Anyhow, with this economy, I'd take the gig. You can always move on to another department, district, etc. later. The way the larger city Fire / EMS systems are structured today your forced to work a dual role. Many of these are IAFF shops and that is where the money is.

While if being a medical professional is your preference a single role EMS position would be best. But if in your area that is not a real option sadly I'd say go with the money. Now in saying that keep in mind many fire departments will not hire a person with a previous back injury.

Mark, would the position be a FF/EMT position or a civilian EMS position? I am currently working as a civilian for a department in Marion County. If the job you are considering is also in Marion County, feel free to PM me with specific questions or put them on the Indiana EMS group (http://www.emtlife.com/group.php?groupid=3) and I will do my best to answer them.
