Has anyone out there from another state got their MICN (paramedic) License for Hawaii? How did you accuire the extra hours of training they require?

I filed reciprocity and was accepted but never made the move. My program covered those hours from WA state, as did my friends from OR.

I'm not sure if you've read this yet but it briefly describes the process.

My program was long enough hours-wise so I didn't have to do anything extra. I'm from California too. If you need the additional hours or ride time then i'd call AMR and see
what they have to say about that first. Seems like it might be the only option. Other than making the move and taking classes at KCC.

Starting with HEMS next week.

Hey cool, thanks for the info!

I'm in the process of getting my Hawaiian license right now. I'm a florida medic and graduated from an CoAEMSP accredited school, and have been working rescue for two years. Just got a letter from Hawaii stating I needed 200 more hours as a third-person rider! Any suggestions??

Well I highly doubt your company/department would pay you but I'd bet it'd be worth a shot to ask them if you could do an extra ride a week as a third, unpaid, to get the required hours.

I would think actively working as a paramedic for x amount of time would suffice for the clinical/internship hour requirements....that might be too easy for govnment operations though.

Get the extra 200 hours in training from your day job if you are a working Medic.

Or apply for a Limited Temporary Cert. Link is above.

I would love to have that job....working EMS in Hawaii....can I get stationed on the beach in an area with a low call volume too????
