Hi all,

Do any of you make routine use of Entonox as an analgesic. I know that there are numerous local protocols amongst you. Just interested in its use.

If that does not work, what injectable analgesics are you allowed to use.

Regards,

Unfortunately, Entonox never really caught on here. The price of the inductor and mixer/regulator is considered pretty high in comparison to injectable analgesics.

Most services carry basic analgesic medications and again, many do not address aggressive pain management. Simplistic and most common is Morphine Sulfate, Valium for muscle relaxant. Within the past decade more are turning to Toradol (NSAID) for renal calculi (kidney stones) as well for potential fractures and muscle skeletal pain (such as lower back pain), as well many are progressing to Fentyl and other short span analgesics.

Still most are not able to administer analgesics to abdominal pain, with the fear of "masking the pain".

The issue of pain management is just now being addressed and discussed in the prehospital setting, within the past few years.
