Hey, I'm an EMT-Basic, and I currently live and work in Chicago. I'm planning a move out to Portland (or the surrounding area - we're going house hunting soon) in the next several months.

How is it for EMTs in Oregon? How much do the private services pay? Is it better to be an EMT-I? Do you find more, or better paying work as an EMT-I?

I'd really appreciate any input that anyone has!

Thanks a lot!

Not a lot of jobs for EMT-B's out here unless you want to drive a wheelchair van. You could always find work in a hospital or try to get with a fire department as EMT-B. There are a TON of EMT-B's in the Portland area, who are all trying to get on with a fire department. Wheelchair van pay at the area services (Community Ambulance, MetroWest, AMR, and some other ones) starts at about $12/ Hr I believe and you can get all the overtime you want. You will basically be a taxi service for these companies. The area employers do not have the best reputation for how they treat their employees. Don't now about EMT-I as I am kind of new to the area myself and don't know of many I's.The ones I do know all work in rural areas.
