First I should say that I live in California. My EMT-B has lapsed as off March 31, 2013. And I have not practiced at all. I was certain that I would have to retake an EMT course in order to be certified again. But this morning I called the National Registry, a women looked up my certification, and she told me I am eligible to recertify with a refresher course up to two years after my EMT has lapsed. She did not mention needed to have practiced at all, but after looking around these forums it seems I am out of luck. I am just curious if there is anyway for me to recertify? I never applied for a county certification. If I take a refresher class is there any chance that I can obtain a county EMT card and not my National Registry certification? My end goal is to enter a paramedic program, but of course I need a current national registry or county EMT certification. Any help is much appreciated, even if its knowing for sure that I need to retake an EMT course.
