EMT-I or BSN

if your goal is to be a CRNA, you need to start nursing school asap.

You can pick up your EMT-I while you are in nursing school, or just after you finish.

If you are going to CRNA school you need to get two years of ICU experience and an MSN before you will be able to apply for CRNA school. It takes 2 years of nursing experience to get into a masters program as well.

So your best bet is to right now, go get a job as a PCT, CNA, unlicensed nurses aide... whatever you can in an ICU or ER while you are going through nursing school. This will give you the greatest chance to get that new grad ICU job and get you on your academic pathway faster than piddling around getting an IV/ETI cert on top of your advanced first aid (EMT-B)

BSN... And why the :censored::censored::censored::censored: will it take a year and a half to upgrade to EMT-I?

I would first have to get my EMT-E (6 months) and then follow up with my EMT -I (6-8 months depending on where I take it). To top that, I have to hold my basic for a year, and my EMT-E for a year, that's approx 3 years, hence the year and a half if I take the EMT-I curriculum at a college.

Thank you all for your advice. I can definitely see that getting my BSN is the best route to go after all. Thanks for all the help! =]

Where are you located? I've never heard of that type of setup.

Virginia. It's not in Virginia law, it's the way our OMD functions. He requires that we hold each individual certification level for 1 year before continuing on, but makes the exception if you acquire a higher certification through attending a college.
