I have seen tons of salary info on here and the web. It seems to range anywhere from $7hr-$22hr. Can someone give me an idea as far as salary for an EMT-B in the Philadelphia area?
Are we talking the burbs or Philly itself? In the burbs (Chester, Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties) it varies depending on the station--the ambulances are run out of volunteer fire companies or ambulance services that hire paid staff, so it can vary widely.
I think Philly itself pays like $44,000/yr for Paramedics. EMTs in Philly are firefighters assigned to the medic, and start at like $39,000
How is the "job market" for EMTs in surrounding PA counties? When I started out in 2003, you had to have 1-3 years of EMS experience as an EMT, which if you didn't have, you had to volunteer... or know someone. It seemed pretty hard to get. I finally got one because I finally got a year of experience volunteering and knew the asst. chief of a squad.
Might be worth looking around Del Co. I don't know how the pay is now, but I got 10$ an hour in 2004... Though I enjoyed the experience (busy BLS 911 ambulance that is unfortunately ALS now).
Sb... I was making 14-15 in Delco as an EMT in '08. That seems to be about the going rate for "real" 911 EMS. Most of the transport companies start in the 11-12 range for EMT's. Some are higher... some not.
$22? for an EMT? Really? That's decent for medic pay. Tell me where that is for BLS, and I'll gladly work there as "just a basic".
