EMT-B job with NYP?

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I'm a new B in NYS with 0 prehospital experience beyond my ridealongs required for the course (24 hours). However, I have extensive experience in hospital/acute care settings with direct patient care.

I'm looking for an EMS job with NYP ideally.

Anyone have suggestions? I read that I need an "in" in order to get a job with them...maybe there are some NYP EMT's who would like to make a new bud? I'll buy you a beer.

Suggestions/tips appreciated.

Presby is the ideal EMT job for everyone in the city. From what I hear, you definitely need an in, as well as a few years 911 experience (I think 5 was the minimum I heard). Your best bet is to get on the FDNY list ASAP. Once you've worked a few years with them you'll be able to start applying to hospital jobs. In the meantime, get with a private IFT company to get your foot in the door. It's far from glamorous, but a good way to learn the city/hospitals, and even talk with some experienced EMS personnel. Or...go for your medic.
