I'm looking to get an EMT-B then work for a private EMS company. I would like to bypass all the volunteering and get paid for action right away. Just looking for part-time at night. I do have an IT day job.

Do you know what is the cheapest way to go about this? What are the options? I was thinking take a course at a community college then take the EMT-B exam. I'm out in Frederick, MD.

Well you've got how to get the certification, not much else we can tell you there.

Getting a paid spot right out of the gate with the limited hours you're willing to work isn't going to be easy. Also I'm not positive but isn't MD 911 generally fire based? If so any private EMS company you work for is going to be primarily interfacility transfers from hospital to hospital with the occasional 911 backup contract.

In a job where "qualified" people with 100% open schedules are a dime a dozen it's tough to bring your own terms to the table when seeking employment.

Many companies will only let employees go part time or PRN after working full time for x amount of time to get experience. Not always the case though.
