So next year I'm going to be a senior in high school. I want to take the EMT-B course in January while I am in high school. They meet 2 week nights and one weekend morning. Would this be too hard to balance the EMT work and school work?

No. I did it. Its not that hard. Just manage your time and you will be fine. EMT class is not difficult if you are interested in it. Learn the anatomy and use common sense.

As a warning, depending on where you live it may be difficult for you to find a job as an EMT if you are under 21. Do not let that disuade you though. It looks great on a college resume and helped me to get into a competitive university's honors program. If you cant find work just volunteer somewhere and get some experience.

I did it as well. I had to miss a few classes due to clinical but it was not a big deal. If you are going into premed or nursing it will help out a lot. A lot of colleges have squads you can join. What college are you looking at? Look at NCEMSF. I loved my EMT course, although i did get made fun of a bit, being the youngest in the class.

Did it. Wasnt a challenge at all. Other people in my class struggled because they dont do well in lecture. For me, having 4 years of observation as a "junior" firefighter helped me a lot.

In the beginning things may be confusing, or hard, but once you start to learn how this works with that and this is how its done it will come together and click.

Took it on top of college classes without issue, I'm sure the same could be said for a high school senior.

When I took my basic course recently we had one kid drop out when he realized that he would not be 18 in time for clinicals, and therefore would fail out no matter how well he did the book work. This was in SoCal, your mileage may vary.

Beyond that, focus on the early basics and everything after the first week or two becomes easier and easier.

Best of luck.

I'm taking my class which was January 3rd to may 11th Saturday and as Sunday 9 to 6 as a junior. It is not that hard you don't even need to study that much most of the stuff is kind of self explanatory after you learn different symptoms associated with different things. Trauma is easy because it is mostly stop bleeding back board and treat for shock, after that it is basically find life threats and fix them airway breathing circulation. And bsi scene safety, that is key
