Does anyone know anything good or bad about EMSA (Emergency Medical Services Authority) in Oklahoma City, and Tulsa, OK. I applied with them and most likely have an interview end of August. Please private message me or post something on here if you know anything about pay, what kind of system they have if they have building post or street side, ranks they have and insurance and benefits. I see they dont get paid all that bad. Please help me with any info you have possibly if you work there or did would be great.

Tulsa is pretty good, good pay and plenty of overtime at least when I was there. However they try to make you work up everything ALS, probably for more cash in their pocket, and it is SSM, which sucks, but get in and get out thas what I did and now I make triple what I did over there.
Good Luck.

Go for it!

I have a friend who used to live in the Tulsa/OC area, and he told me the low cost of living there is simply retarded! I'm an urban/city boy, and don't mind paying through the nose or sacrificing some luxuries to live in expensive cities... so that doesn't mean a whole lot to me, but it might to you.

I do not now, nor have I ever worked for EMSA, but I do currently work in a very similar system. SSM (System Status Management) is what you make of it. There are no "stations", so you are assigned to a post (street corner) somewhere in the coverage area and wait for calls. You wind up being moved around to different posts throughout the shift to compensate for other units, who have taken calls, in order to maintain maximum coverage of the city. We are not confined to the truck, and can "hang out" in the immediate area to eat, grab coffee, etc... I personally do not enjoy sitting at a station and would rather be out and about, but to each his or her own.

EMSA also seems to be progressive in it's protocols, as is the system I work for. Definitely won't hurt on the resume.

At my employer, we also do IFT calls in between 911 when the call volume will allow... and even when it doesn't :glare: Not sure if this is the case with EMSA though. If you do wind up taking the job, keep me posted... I have been toying with the idea of heading out west next spring.

Good Luck!

so I know I'm posting on a really old thread here but...

Did you take the job? How is it? Any tips you have on getting accepted there? I'm a Paramedic student and I really want to work for EMSA once I graduate.
