I am hopefully going to be starting an online EMS instructor course this January that is being put on by the company I work for. All the work is done on your own, except for two different days you need to show up in class. Once is for an orientation and the second is for skills testing and a final. If you pass the class successfully you will become certified.

I have always enjoyed teaching and so this seems like a good opportunity for me. Has anyone else taken an EMS instructor course? How was it?

re

It was excellent anda great start in transitioning into the classroom environment.

http://www.naemse.org/ <---------- 1 and 2 if your strictly EMS oriented and consider the Fire Instructor 1a, 1b, 1c also if you plan on doing any FD instruction along with it.

Just remember to teach everyone that all patients require supplemental oxygen and deviation from protocols is absolutely unacceptable regardless of circumstance.

That just for Fire members though :oP

I took a DOT instructor course last Jan that was 3 8-hour days, I have since become very involved in my services education dept. and all I can say the instructor course I took was strictly a formality, just as with being a EMT, Medic, or anything else your learning process starts once you jump in. Just teach as much as you can and develop your own style of instructing!!
