'Correct a misconception'

While I appreciate that the media are finally recognizing that EMS employees are more than "ambulance drivers," and you may be figuring out that our patients are actually getting professional treatment and transportation to emergency departments, I must correct a misconception in your March 18 editorial regarding EMS overtime.

The current massive amounts of overtime are a concern for all Louisville Metro EMS employees, not "sour grapes" from the former Louisville Fire and Rescue/Emergency Medical Services employees. Former LFR paramedics like me actually are better off with the merger in terms of overtime. We had been covering 43 positions with 18 people since last summer. LFR paramedics were working 36 hours, getting off for 12-24 hours and doing it all over again.
