Hey guys,

New to the forum. Been lurking here quite a while.

I worked for a volunteer fire department in Washington state for 4 years as a firefighter/emt-b. I have my WA state EMS cert and national registry. Moved to Austin 5 months ago. Applied for atcems.

Its looking like i will be starting the academy in June for the Austin Travis Co. EMS! Very exciting!

I havent heard much about whats involved in an EMS academy... so i was curious if i could get some insight from you folks. What exactly is involved? It looks like it is a 13 week academy... What should i brush up on? To be honest, it has been a while since i went on a call, or trained on EMS stuff. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!
I look forward to learning valuable lessons from all of the knowledgeable people on here.

First, welcome to EMTLife!

No experience with that area, but I'd imagine a lot of it is getting used to their protocols, SOPs, and area. You may be evaluated by an FTO on calls after the academy, or you might immediately be sent to a truck. Hopefully someone who knows more specifics than I do chimes in soon. Good luck!
