I am talking specifically to EMTs who work first response; do you like what you do? or would you rather stick to IFT?

I work rural 911 and love it. I used to work urban ift and it was good experience getting patient contact. I have never hated any medical job I've had, including floor tech at a hospital.

I love it. Whether its IFT or 911. I love practicing my skills and any patient contact.

Given the choice, I'd do 911, but there is plenty to learn doing IFT as well.

I totally hate dialysis runs, though. I was so glad when the medicare rules changed and we didn't hardly do them at all anymore.

Medicare changed the amount they reimbursed for many calls, causing many companies to reduce the amount of dialysis type calls>

To answer the question, I enjoy my job. I bet your poll results will be a little skewed here since I would only expect those that enjoy their job and are motivated to participate in a EMS forum.

No, I do not like my job. I absolutely love it; the good; the bad; the ugly.

I am happier when Im on a 911 rig as opposed to a BLS IFT but at least I get to do an assessment on BLS. I have not worked ALS IFT but I tell you what, I really don't like CCT.

going from a primary 911 in Central CA back to IFT in LA so that I could finish school is a very humbling experience. Do I like my job? Not particulary because of what I was used to, however, in today's economic uncertanty I am happy I even have a job.
Looking forward to bigger and better things this summer (hopefully)

I work strictly 911...I love my job and absolutely would not think about working for an IFT, sorry I respect those that can do transports...it's just not for me.

IFT has it's place and can be a very good learning experience. As far as prehospital first response, I LOVE it!! I couldn't imagine myself (permanently) doing anything else!! :P

I work on an emergency ALS unit. Like any jobs it has its ups and downs, luckily the ups outweigh the downs.

I don't mind doing occasional IFTs especially when there is an escort nure/doctor. Learn lots about difficult conditions.

911 > Inter-Facility Transport

I will never work for a strictly IFT service. Ever.

Fire Based EMS 911 transporting dept. I spend half of my time on a txp unit, and the other half on the engine. It gives me a break from the overnight BS runs, and it's definitely a change of pace that keeps me fresh. Most of my OT is on a transport unit that's medic/EMT. I get plenty of txp work to keep my skills sharp. I also do IFT on a per diem basis, very occasionally.

My situation is set up just the way I like it.
