Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust
Associates in Emergency Medicine
Be more than a middle-grade specialty doctor, with our structured career progression.
About the role
Some hospitals don't see you like we do. But at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, we see potential. We see an opportunity in our A&E departments for you to grow and develop. We see a chance for you to realise your ambitions in one of the best performing NHS trusts in the United Kingdom.
Joining a new cadre of doctors known as Associates, you'll have structured time for career development, to include a rolling programme of clinical specialty attachments and access to leadership training and activities. At the same time, you'll be a key member of our emergency medicine teams, working on a shift pattern and not on-call.
We offer access to excellent facilities. Our impressive A&E Department has been recently renovated and modernised. It now includes a new resuscitation area with five bays, and a Majors area with 11 bays – including dedicated Psychiatry and Gynaecology Assessment rooms.
We are in the process of developing a continuous clinical specialty experience programme. The aim of this is to provide regular broad based and focused clinical training and experience in areas of medicine and clinical specialties pertinent to Emergency Medicine.
The objective:
Ensure regular updating of clinical knowledge and skills across the wide range of areas relevant to Emergency Medicine.
Maintain a cadre of multi-skilled doctors within the Emergency and Unscheduled Care Directorate who are able to recognise and manage the sick patient, who can define the nature of the specialist intervention required and who have complementary specialty training.
To offer EM specialty associate doctors a broader insight into the roles, functions and challenges faced by other teams in complex healthcare provision, both within and outside the hospital.
To offer assurance that EM specialty doctors have the skills and competence to work autonomously within agreed boundaries.
Provide the EM specialty associate doctor with experience under formal supervision equivalent to a EM trainee albeit over a longer period with the option, if desired, to undertake the Fellowship of College of Emergency Medicine (FCEM) examination and consider application for a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), under Article 14 of the General Medical Practice and Specialist Medical Evaluation Training and Qualifications Order 2003.
About you
To join us you'll need to be eligible for full registration with the UK GMC and have at least 18 months clinical experience in emergency medicine. In addition, you will ideally have experience of another complementary specialty such as cardiology or critical care. Computer literacy and a good standard of written and spoken English are both essential.
In return we offer a great future with structured career progression, in a location that's just 24 minutes by train from Central London.
