WASHINGTON -- D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Alan Etter said a D.C. paramedic was attacked and beaten Wednesday evening at Dupont Circle.

Etter said medics were responding to a report of a man having seizures, and when they arrived they spotted a man having seizures under a park bench.

While providing service to the patient, a man allegedly approached one of the medics, Hunter Hughes, from behind and started to scream at Hughes to leave the patient alone, authorities said. Hughes asked the man to step back and allow the medics to do their job. The man refused and hit Hughes several times in the face.

With everything else there is to worry about we now have "urban outdoorsmen" beating on us? What next? :o

I always hoped that the public would see us as non-armed medical professionals that assist community members in need. I hoped that the FD/EMS was above many of the assault problems that faced PD, but I guess not.
