As part of my paramedic training programme, I need to undertake some research on a current pre-hospital issue or an issue within current paramedic practice.

I will need to research and present my topic at a paramedic research forum.

I'm looking for any ideas surrounding EMS issues that I could research... What do you think? I appreciate any and all ideas!!

Cheers
Sam

Inadequacy of entry requirements, training, education, and competence of paramedics nationwide (assuming you are in the US).

Rampant teaching/preaching and use of outdated, inappropriate, and potentially harmful interventions.

  1. Driving with lights and sirens and does it save time.
  2. Using high flow oxygen.
  3. EMT education standards.
  4. Paramedic education standards.
  5. Under use of pain control.
  6. Over use of backboards and c-collars.
  7. The continued use of intubation and/or RSI.
  8. Carrying weapons/mace/guns as self defense.
  9. Fluid administration in trauma patients.
  10. System Status Management.
  11. Fire based EMS vs. 3rd service vs. Private companies.
  12. EMS initiated patient refusals.
  13. Military medics transitioning to Paramedics.
  14. Terminating CPR in the field.
  15. CPR on victims of traumatic arrest.
  16. Everything over 150 is "SVT".
  17. Treatment of psychiatric patients prehospital.
  18. D50 vs D10

That should get you started.

Thank you both! That should provide me with a good starting point.
