For those out there who work in Critical Care field either as CC Medics, RN's, PA's etc.

I am looking for a main text and maybe a couple of adjunct books.

In main text I am looking for overall overview of critical care, your role and the pathophysiology of your patients and equipment you will be using and CC pharmacology.

Would like to find a couple of adjunct books focusing on equipment mostly Ventilators, IV Pumps etc...

What books/literature did you find that you liked? Any really well written? Does not have to be paramedic specific.

I am not looking for a certification, I am looking for expanding my knowledge with regard to Critical Care. All advice would be appreciated.

This book is considered to be the "CCT Bible" by most.

Don't worry too much about equipment, that stuff is easy to learn. Get the above book, a good book on mechanical ventilation and go to town.

The problem with the Bledsoe text is it's not written to the same level as the Holleran book. For what the OP is looking for it may actually be better, as it's a bit more "plain English" than ASTNAs text.

Just a word of advice though, the FP-C, CCP-C, CFRN and CTRN are all written off what's in the ASTNA book. So if you ever think you might want to get certified, I'd go with it.

Good advice. I actually used the Bledsoe book to supplement my paramedic course knowledge. The airway chapter is excellent.

I'm still learning my craft as a paramedic. "Regular" EMS is enough of a challenge part-time without adding one of the critical care certs...

I prefer more comprehensive over "plain English" any day.

Looking at the table of contents ASTNA Patient Transport: Principles and Practice looks great.

Critical Care Transport (AAOS) (Author), UMBC, contents wise looks solid as well. Any opinions on this book? compared to ASTNA?

I try to stay away from anything potentially tainted by the cluster:censored::censored::censored::censored: that is Maryland EMS (i.e., anything involving UMBC). The ASTNA book is great, although I will freely admit something of a bias as I consider Renee Holleran a friend (as I do also Bryan Bledsoe).

+1 on ASTNA
I've read both as I normally find Bledsoe's texts easier for me, but the ASTNA prepared me for my exam better.

Thanks for all replies! I am going with ASTNA Patient Transport.
