Hello!,

I am CPR instructor and I am wondering how much other CPR instructors charger for BLS healthcare provider. If you don't mind can you explain how you broke your costs down? thanks!

I don't make a dime off of my CPR classes I do it as a courtesy, for most of the local fire departments.

I charge 10 dollars a head though, that covers the cost of materials for testing and mailing in the roster to my sponsoring agency. I have a friend of mine who I often teach classes with that has access to the manikins for free we are doing one this week.

I didn't get into teaching CPR to make money, I did it so that I can build on my instructor credentials to move on teaching bigger classes. like EMT ITLS and the such

I own a CPR company in Chicago. The website is [redacted]. You can look at that for a better breakdown of our pricing. But, I charge $50 for BLS and $40 for HS. That's a pretty low price in Chicago, some people here charge $70 for BLS! My $50 does not include the AHA book. That is an additional $15.

To find the prices that area competitive in your area, I would google "CITY CPR Classes" and look at 4 or 5 companies and just match the average price. That's what I did and it works great for me.

My time is valuable. Fire Departments have budgets that they use for training. Do you really think that the fire academy rruns their classes for cost as a courtesy? or do they cover their costs, pay their instructors, and invest in the future. You doing your CPR classes for cost is going to screw you in the future. Here's why:

You get access to manikins for free. what happens when they break? How are you going to pay for the repairs? what happens when you need to upgrade? what about those disposable items, such as lungs? These things have costs. books have costs. AHA DVDs have costs. it costs you $$$ to put gas in your car, to get to the fire houses. not to mention your time... how much is your time worth? mine is worth at least $15 an hour. not to mention the insurance you should have, in case you get sued.

I typically charge $65 for renewals, and $85 for original HCP class, with a minimum class size of 4. Those are for classes that are taught at my facilities. If I go somewhere else, I might charge $100 per person, to cover my commuting costs. If someone asks me for a last minute CPR class, that's $100 at least, because it means i have to drop everything to run the class for 1 person.

Our station medic and one from a local ems service have their own business teaching CPR, and all the alphabet soup classes for EMT's and Medics. For the heart saver they charge 40/person, and will run the class once they have 18 people. For our department though, she does it for NC, company picks up the cost of the equipment/books. When she is contacted by a company to do it she charges 50/person and includes all materials. We are in PA.

True Very True..

I have only been doing CPR at the station I work at, They maintain the manikins for their cost, and Since I am a employee they don't charge me to use them. Considering that myself or another employee ends up recertifying other employees. If I had to support my own operating budget to include the cost of the books, maintaining my own manikins and the such. An increase in cost would be must.

The local fire depts. here are very budget light on training. most of the Fire guys who take CPR are doing it with money out of their own pockets where as they'll pay for them to take Firefighter 1 certification, They won't cut a check for them to take a CPR class. Its pretty pathetic to be honest.
