Hello. everyone I am 22 years old and I am interested into going to college to get my EMT-B here in FL. I am a dropout but I'm going to go get my GED

The admission here to SPC college is

1. Have HS Diploma or GED
2. Do a college placement test if needed to see if you are on college level reading/math/writing
3. Have a 2.0 or better GPA

EMT program admission

1. 18 years or older
2. Submit health applications

My question is after I meet college course work level after I do the placement test and pass. Since there aren't any pre-reqs required doI just go to school EVERYDAY and focus on EMT? Or do I have to go to different classes then EMT? Like say compared to high school where morning I got math then next I gotta go to reading then after I get to go to electives?

How do college work for this program since I don't need to take pre-req?

I have tried calling everyday no one picks up so I've decided to just post on a EMT forum. I will link the program into this thread.

Please look at it and let me know how this works.

Thank you guys, also move thread if in wrong area

One thing I have found about colleges....is when no one picks up, almost EVERY website has an email for contact, some even have a "Chat now" option. I would utilize those. Additionally, this is the VERY tough step...but I would get in my car and drive there, walk there, bus there, bum a ride there and go IN PERSON and ask the admissions counselor these very questions. You would then have a MUCH more appropriate and knowledgeable source telling you exactly what is required as opposed to a bunch of random strangers on a forum.

How bad do you want it? How much effort will you give?
I ask, cause me personally...I would have already visited the campus and found the info prior to asking online.

36 admitted and typically 90-120 apply...Good Luck and make yourself stand out. That will not happen via a phone call, email, or other impersonal communication. There is inherent value in showing up in person, displaying interest, commitment and you never know who you will meet. I would even ASK to meet the program chair and intro myself. Why do this you ask? You are entering a competitive program and this is the only way you have to make yourself stand out.

In my state at least, you have to have a HSD/GED to get an emt card. Perhaps the same in your state. If so, that's your first hurdle.

After that, you have options. In Mass, there are three dozen or so private emt schools who will take anybody who can write a check. If the college is you're only option, then you have to play their game. If you have options, don't let the college bend you over meeting their requirements, including cost. The emt course is written at around the 8th grade level. You don't have to be a Rhodes scholar to do emt school, so the college placement test is pointless.

I wish it was like that over here in FL the only places that offer EMT courses that I know of is all colleges here. I've been trying to look up more places but didn't succeed.

You cannot find one of the medic mills in FL?

Where do you live? There are plenty of schools which are not colleges.

I live in Clearwater FL, I looked up "EMT Classes in Pinellas county" all I see is SPC or HCC those are community colleges. But they require for you to enroll before you get in there class. I'm trying to look for a school that offers only EMT course but no where to be found. We used to have a place called FMTI it was a medical institute but they got shut down.
