I will soon be moving to Alexandria area and have been looking for part time / full time EMT jobs in the area. So far I have found 3 places that spark my interest and was looking to see if anyone on here had any info on them (pay, schedule, etc)?

1. North memorial ambulance- douglas county
2. Glacial Ridge Ambulance
3. Stevens county ambulance
4. Sauk center ambulance

North's medical benefits are phenomenal. 24 hour shifts, 12 hours on duty, 12 on call.

I'm trying to figure out how to word this--- they are fiercely loyal and protective of their EMS employees. It's not uncommon to have their MDs and cardiologists throw on a uniform and work on a rig. I think my sup used to work for NMMC Alex region. I'll ask him.

But physical testing for employment is brutal.

I have worked with a few people that have worked with a couple of the places you mentioned. I don't live in mn anymore but may be able to give you some info

North memorial in Alexandria works a schedule very similiar to career fire depts, pay is ok, plus you would be able to work at other sites they have I believe? So you would have a lot of time off. Stevens county ems is a private company that is ran by one of the owners sons I think. I know they have full time medics but I think almost all of there emts are paid on call. Most of there staff is college students. Have heard pay is kinda low. From what I have heard about glacial ridge ems is stay away. Seems they have a lot of turn over. Have heard a lot of things about there management and the scope of practice for there emts is very low except if you are buddy buddy with the manager. Sauk center I don't know much about but I think it's a volunteer service they are a BLS service. Now with saying that I moved a couple years ago and things may have changed. You can PM me if you like, I still talk with a few people that work out in that area

Greetings all,

I'm in South Dakota right near the Minnesota/South Dakota border, so I, too, would appreciate any detailed information on the good, the bad, and the ugly of working in Minnesota. I live in the Twin Cities for a year, and I wouldn't mind going back to the Alexandria area or wherever the jobs are. I'm particularly interested in why Glacial Ridge is shunned.

I'll be an EMT-B in a couple of months, and Minnesota, Colorado, Washington are at the top of my list of places to begin job hunting now.

Cheers,
M.

Stevens Co. is co-owned by Ringdahl in Fergus Fall. I did a ride a long with Ringdahl and my gut feeling was don't work for them. I cannot explain it. The crew that I saw was very over weight. Fair to poor equipment in my opinion.
Glacial Ridge has a rule that you cannot work for another service, need to live within 5 min of garage, and if you are thinking of going to school while there, think again. The manager has fired people for asking to switch schedules so they can go to school. Smalltownmedic's response is spot on for Glacial Ridge.

As a 3 year employee of Glacial Ridge Ambulance, my opinion may be biased, but please keep in mind that any former employee who feels that they were wrongly terminated will not have a good opinion of that service. I know and have worked with firemedicmn and will be the first to say that his knowledge and skills are truly second to none and most all employees here were very sad to see him leave. But, he did find himself on the wrong side of the employment policy. His other claims of distance from the garage and schedules are also not quite the truth. While it is encouraged to live locally, he lived 50+ miles away during his employment here. To firemedicmn, I'm sure you know who I am and still have my number, feel free to dispute anything I have said.

To New2ems, I encourage you to not believe everything you read. Not every service is perfect, but our EMT-B pay is the highest in the area, we have great equipment, an on-call house for those of us who live out of town, and a medical staff that works well with the ambulance service. We are a facility with a great up side, keep us in mind.
