Hey everyone,

I am currently working as a paramedic in Manitoba, Canada and I was wondering how difficult it would be to make the move to Florida? Are there any job prospects in Florida? how do I get certified/licensed in Florida? where do i begin? any good websites to look at?

Any input would be greatly appreciate....Thanks for the help in advance.

I can't really speak with any authority since I am as far away as you can get from Florida and still be in the 48, however, I think all EMS in FL is fire based. IFT may not be, I am really not sure. I could have sworn that the majority, of not all of FL EMS is fire based.

Sasha I know can tell you. I am pretty sure we have some other members from FL as well.

Having spent 2 years in London, ONT, I have to ask - why would you want to leave Canada?

There's a couple departments around Orlando that are/will be hiring. Orange County FD I've heard will be hiring around July or so, Orlando FD will probably hire more too soon since their medics are running around non-stop. Then of course there's the privates around the area.

You'd have to look into visas and stuff and get that all timelined-out before looking for job prospects. Not really sure how long that takes.

Here's a reason!

Do you have an unrestricted US work visa? You won't get one based on your PCP or ACP alone as Paramedic in the US is semi skilled third preference for a work visa

Florida is a fire state and as such the six month patch monkey firemedic reigns supreme.
