Hello fellow Canadian EMS enthusiasts,

A few questions for you all:

A) What province do you work in?
B) Range of pay you receive for how many hours per week of work?
C) Have you ever considered working in Northern Alberta, if yes, what were your conditions, pay, work schedule, and work routine?

I'm Canadian and trying to learn as much as I can from Canadians regarding EMS!

Thanks!

1. I am from New Brunswick. Worked the trucks there for 6 years as a pcp. I now work in the AB oil fields as an ACP..( NB does not use ACPs )
2. In nb pay is about 25 an hour for pcp. In AB pay is much better. Pay for PCP/EMT is 300-400 a day. ACP /EMT P 600-800 a day ( some cover flights as well) not sure what the ahs wages are.
3. I work in medical clinics. Some small some large. I enjoy it. I thankfully don't he to sit in a truck all day for be confined to a shack for my tour. I see anywhere from 2-10 pts a day (depending on location) staffing also varies from site I site. Experiences in industrial vary greatly. I actually see pts and get to be a medic while others will go weeks without even doing an assessment. I usually work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. 12 hour day and 12 hours on call. My currently clinic has about 600 workers and I have a pcp/EMT partner. My last site had 4-5k and was staffed by 2 ACP, 2 RNs and a PCP.

Most EMR and EMT/PCP work is 3 weeks on 1 week off. You will most likely be by yourself in a truck, on an oil rig or in a shack. There are the nicer clinic jobs for BLS but they can be hard to get.
