Can you say douche bags?

I agree, that they made a huge mistake, but I work in a suburb of Detroit. 40% of calls that come into the dispatch center in Detroit are pranks that don't actually require police/EMS. Detroit barely has enough units to even run EMS. I can only imagine that after the 100th prank 911 call, a dispatcher may become jaded.

This isn't an excuse for the system, as they made a huge mistake, but the problem goes far beyond just dispatch.

Not making excuses, but I see this as a system-wide failure.

When you have 10 priority calls waiting for an ambulance, and you get a call from a kid, where 40% of these calls are generally fake, I can see why a dispatcher would want to talk to an adult.

sounds like the city is going to pay out the snout for this one...even is they thought it a prank call they should have sent the PD the first time around...this is not a good thing for disptachers to do as they are sitting in a room miles away and are only observing one side of things...

The problem is that they keep firing PD too. I mean we're talking massive lay-offs. It's Detroit. Personally I think the entire system is broken, and this dispatcher is the scapegoat.
