Boston's Walk for Hunger

Alright, just some quick questions. First, do you know where the parking would be? I don't go to Boston much and do I need to really bring anything? Also what would be the best thing to wear? Would just jeans and a t-shirt be fine? Thanks again.
AFAIK, parking would be on side streets. There should be plenty, but I'd recommend bringing a few drinks and a few snacks. I'm probably going to bring a small cooler for the people at the station to keep drinks cool, and I suppose emergency needs for ice. Like if we get another heat stroker like we did last year. For clothes, you should be all set. I'm planning on going in work pants and a polo

Wish i could go...i will be out of town. Does anyone here do MA special olympic summer games?

I also wish I could join you. I haven't made it out to the walk for a few years, and miss it. Unfortunately, i'm working a big event of my own. Good luck!!!

I'll be showing up around 6:30am to set up the 1st Aid section. The main throng of walkers comes around 11-2. TONS of people, lots of foot injuries, a few emergencies.

Dress comfortably. No dress code and you'll get a red First Aid t-shirt when you arrive.

Would be a good idea. I am bringing a few sandwiches and some gatorade.

Nope, but would love to get involved, current job (hopefully relegated to side job status by then) and (hopefully) new job pending

Augh, this would have been cool. I overlook the reservoir from my apartment, and this morning I looked out and then realized that the walk was this weekend haha.

Hope it went well.

Back from the walk. 4 of us EMTLifers showed up! It was totally awesome! We treated a million cuts and scraped, a billion sore feet and at least 100,000 trillion blisters. At least. Probably more.

We had a few higher acuity issues. A few diabetics who didn't eat their breakfast yet took their insulin (BGL 34 in one case). He drank two bottles of glucose paste and 4 different meal bars we had on hand. ALS got called and he refused care after he retested in the high 60s. A few dizzy/lightheaded issues that resolved with rest, hydration and food and ended with a bus ride back to the Boston Commons.

The EMTLifers totally represented! We talked about forum politics, funny posts and the chat room. We had major help from Cataldo Ambulance that posted a bus right next to us.

Thanks to all who came and volunteered. I'll be bugging you in a year from now!!!

Do you know who's camera the group photo was taken on?

It was the kid who went to Brandeis and I don't have his contact info! NOOOOOOO!!!

It was a pretty good day. Those guys were awesome. Cataldo's got some pretty good people working for them.

A funny thing I just recalled- one of the Cataldo EMT-Bs that was stationed with us had a bald head and shaves it. He told me the week before he wanted to see how shiny he could get his head so he rubbed baby oil on it and took pictures. It was really hilarious.

And then he went and finally put sunblock on it once it started to burn. I think he said the thing about the baby oil while we were standing around right before that 911 run they had

I'll try and track him down somehow. Maybe email Brandeis ems and get his email.

Hey, who's up for doing the Walk on May 9th? I'll be running the same First Aid Station by the Elliot Church in Newton. Please come on out and help! I'll take people for any shifts.
