blood pressure readings

(I know I am on person out of 6 Billion.)

Nonetheless, I have HTN, when my blood pressure is high, both numbers go up.

When I asses my patients, sometimes I get high systolic but normal diastolic.

Can each #'s fluctuate up and down interdependently?

Can the diastolic be really high and the systolic low?

Yes. In laymens terms, systolic is a mix of how hard the heart pumps along with vessel resistence. Diastolic is essentially just the vessels.


They don't have to correspond.


Like I said...simplified.
