SANTA CLAUS, IN (WFIE) - A filter pump malfunction at Splashin' Safari at Holiday World sent 24 people to the hospital Saturday night.

When the pump was turned on Saturday night, a larger than normal concentration of liquid bleach was pumped into the water, authorities said.

Several people there said they were having trouble breathing and asked for first-aid treatment.

That stinks! I'm glad the chemicals didn't blind anyone or cause more than just breathing problems!

I second WillBe on this one!

Unfortunately bleach is a nasty irritant and those involved may have the development of reactive airways dysfunction syndrome, bronchiolitis obliterans with or without organized pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis, and delayed-onset ARDS to look forward to. Some of these conditions may haunt the patients for the rest of their lives and require a lifelong diet of various medications including corticosteroids which in the long term will bring about their own list of chronic symptoms and disease processes.
