AVA, Mo. -- Dominic Gillen of Seymour received a three-year prison sentence on Tuesday for a fatal traffic accident on Nov. 25, 2006. Gillen pleaded guilty last July for voluntary manslaughter for the death of Jacob Yeates, 17.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol estimates Gillen was speeding at 84mph and passed a family of four in a no-passing zone on a blind hill on Missouri 76. His car hit head-on a car driven by Yeates, a junior at Ava High School. Gillen, a volunteer firefighter for the Goodhope Fire Department, was heading to a brush fire in a personal vehicle with no lights or siren. He received minor injuries in the crash.

How about just not driving like an idiot? I hope he he gets a big cell mate who is just dieing to help Mr Gillen explore the finer sides of prison life. Unfortunately, as with a lot of DUI accidents, the person who caused the accident is the same person to live.

Key words..........

1. Volunteer Firefighter
2. Brush Fire
3. POV
4. No lights and sirens

Add to this equation sheer stupidity from Gillen and a dangerous highway to begin with and there you go. He deserves longer IMHO. Dumbasses like him deserve to rot in jail..................................

I'll add on to that

5. 84 miles per hoour
6. no-passing zone, bind hill

Stupidity.

In court, what you need to be able to prove that you were responding to 'a true emergency'. This is the law even with lights and sirens and agency rig. Tough to teach volunteers that the illegal burn called in by the neighbor doesn't require a code response.
