This really doesnt have a good spot, so this is as good as any.
This morning I changed my auto insurance policy to a new company. After paying my down payment, I got an email from them saying they were going to adjust the rate they gave me, INCREASING it $200 (thats TWO HUNDRED!!) due to a "Negligible Accident" they found whey the pulled my driving record.
So I called them and in my most calm voice, with out using the string of four letter words that came out of my mouth when I read the email, began to explain to them, I have NEVER had a "negligible" accident, never had a ticket, and they are obviously not the first company I have had insurance with and how is it they are the first ones to find this so called accident.
Well he explained, they use a combination of a credit report and a C.L.U.E. report and it is on this C.L.U.E. report that the accident is showing up. So we talk a bit, and I did have an accident when the report is showing, however I was most definantly not at fault. So I of course ask how I can correct incorrect information on this report, and basically I have to go to the company I had at the time of the accident and have them provide me with a statement of the fact that I was not at fault. And when they do that they can ammend the C.L.U.E. report as such, and the 2 points can come off my driving record (more news to me, that I had any points). And I can provide my new insurance company with this and they will credit what ever portion of the $200 surcharge I have paid.
Now, to sum it up, it may be worth calling your companies, just to be sure your not being charged a surcharge for an accident you were not at fault in.
OH, and my accident was in a no-fault state, however if you have one and your not negligent (read: they other guy is cited) it should not show up as a negligent accident on your report.
