I've been given a scathing and plainly insulting review from someone I have never worked with at my company. Their chief complaint is my personality and ability to take criticism - they never even addressed these issues with me personally. It is absurd that in a review which says I am not receptive to criticism I am 'constructively' being called a "lolly-gagger with a don't care attitude"

How strange is it in the EMS world that you would be harshly evaluated by a trainer with whom you have never worked or talked, especially if they are using pointers from nowhere, hearsay, or first-day reviews to blatantly humiliate and defame you.

I have solid performance review from countless other at the company, so what is my best step forward generally? request a separate eval?

I've always had the opinion that people are much too nice on filling out evaluations; they either don't want to hurt someone's feelers, or are too lazy to put thought and effort into it. If you don't royally piss someone off, "acceptable" tends to get circled all the way down without much thought.

Since none of us here know you, it's impossible to know if you were unjustly graded or finally had an evaluator who did his job. Regardless, our opinion of your performance is irrelevant. If you feel your evaluation was unfair and inaccurate, bring it up to your supervisor or director and express your concerns.

There will always be people who you clash with, and life can be unfair. EMS is certainly not exempt. Learn to deal with the problems when they arise and to let things roll off your back.

Best of luck.

PI: I agree with you, a sugar-coated review cannot benefit anyone and to use another persons review to form their own is questionable - like your Shaw quote states "Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance."
