I'm in the midst of changing careers. After toiling 24 years in information technology, I'm a 45yo male hoping to gain greater personal enrichment by utilizing my analysis and problem solving skills to help individuals at their times of need. Sure, I've read enough to see the cynical side, but I'll remain as positive as I can.

I'm in the first third of my EMT-B program with clinicals starting shortly. I've enjoyed the didactic portion, but I'm really looking forward to seeing theory carried out in practice.

I hope to continue to Paramedic licensure, but will be satisfied doing whatever I think I can to contribute if that doesn't happen.

Thankfully, I've enjoyed a lucrative career to date with responsible saving so I'm less concerned about the compensation and more concerned about this old dog being hired to share my new tricks.

Cheers for others getting a fresh start!

Welcome to the forum.

EMS is a good skills set, but if you want to affect hundreds of people, figure out how not harness your IT to your EMT to make information and commo systems that work and don't need a specialist to operate.

We'll certainly see what happens as I gain subject matter knowledge in EMS and if opportunities present themselves. You can take the guy out of IT, but not the IT out of the guy.
