Arizona Medic Dies After Being Struck by Helicopter Rotor Blade

Doesn't elaborate on how it happened. Hopefully he didn't blindly walk into a rotor.

Remember people.....Approach from the side of the bird and not the the front. A strong downdraft is all it takes for the rotor to slap down and bust your head open like a watermelon hitting the pavement.

*How we was taught, never saw it happened though*

I highly doubt that he simply walked into a rotor. He was a member of the flight crew for 9 years... he was quite aware of the location and danger of the rotors. Sounds like something beyond his control may have happened.

Anyways, my deepest sympathies are with the family and his coworkers for their immense loss.

Aye...I wanted to get the remark out to stave off a "Look Out" post or two.

Circumstances aside, I wish the family and friends well-wishes and hope they find the strength they may need to make it through this ordeal

An Internet aquaintance tells of a longtime crew member who did just this.

Egressed, checked the area around the Huey, then walked back looking downward from uphill. Was during Nam, maybe short on sleep, long on snipers or something, but was experienced.
