Hows it going everybody, Im Erik 23 years old from El Paso, TX. I have always wanted to become ant EMT but unfortunatley when I was 17 I was conficted of a Felony for Evading Arrest in a Motorized Vehicle and I knew I would have to wait at least 5 years to consider becoming certified. So it has now been 5 years and I can honestly say that I have fully matured and just focused on getting my career going as an EMT but I just hope that my backround will not hold me back. I just recently attempted to have this expunged but the judge stated that I could only have a non disclosure which means Law Enforcement will still have access to it. I was young and immature when I was convicted and learned from my mistakes. What do you guys think?

Contact the state offices. Raul is in charge of the El Paso office you might call him to discuss if you can be certified.

An important rule of life is never trust annoying anonymous know it all forum jerks for important matters.

This will boil down to personal decisions from other people. I know one guy that did worse; because he was young, and made an excellent impression on the Board, he was given licensure. Another person, with a far smaller issue, was rude and slovenly; he was denied. You won't be able to get any definitive answers here, and giving it your best shot is, well, your best shot.

Good luck.

Just as an example:

I know of a paramedic firefighter here in texas who was certified and subsequently licensed AFTER he did time in huntsville for MURDER.

If you have truly changed your life, can prove that you are on a straight path and are willing to jump through fiery anal rape hoops and keep coming back for more, you can get licensed in texas. Not sure if other states will grant you reciprocity.

This is for Medic17

What office are you reffering to? Do you know Raul last name?

Definitely ask your lawyer or the judge how you are legally allowed to answer the question on forms that ask if you've been convicted of a felony. Go for as much expungement as you can and the rest get direction from your lawyer/judge as how to proceed.

It may not be bad to write up something to the relavent licensing boards that explain how made a mistake, how you've matured, etc.
