My information is probably a few years out of date, so hopefully someone else will come on and correct any mistakes.

To my knowledge, British Columbia remains a provincial ambulance service with a single union, and very few ALS Paramedics. So you have to apply to the provincial system, and then union seniority determines what position you can get within the province.

Licensing is/was determined by the EMA Licensing board, here:

Anecdotally, the pay is supposed to be pretty good, there's lots of opportunity for ALS calls, but a fairly minimal scope and lots of potential overtime. I think the situation is much easier for ALS paramedics, but from what I've heard there's still a lot of potential seniority issues with choosing where you want to work / live.
