What book are you on? That seems kind of concerning to me that it's not at least defining something as basic as that for you.
We're using Brady 8th Edition Pre Hospital Care. It is a pretty good book in my non-proven opinion, gives definitions, diagrams and clear explanation of what things are. Worst case, I'd buy another book to supplement the shortfalls of the one you are using.
