Patient dead... One EMT in critical condition at the very least (he was airlifted to the top trauma center in the area) and probably the other as well. Personally I'm wondering why charges haven't been filed yet. I don't care if this guy is still in the hospital, handcuff him to the bed.

The answer to that is very simple. When someone is in custody all of their medical bills are automatically paid by the state and in some places there has to be an officer there 24/7. It is no uncommon for the police to wait to arrest someone until they are close to being released from the hospital in order to avoid spending a ton of extra money.
