That's a really extreme example of what can happen to people. There is a really broad spectrum and it would be a mistake to think that because someone works in a domestic EMS/LE setting and not in a forward area these stress injuries would be small and insignificant.

Plenty of folks on this board are well aware of the realities but if you've been doing this for less than 10 years, you may not be. Frequent alcohol use and anger/short fuse at home are two common manifestations of traumatic stress injury that will change the trajectory of your family's future. If you're not sure, ask your spouse.

Processing traumatic/critical incident stress effectively is critical to a crisis management career. The job will mean nothing if the family is a wreck. The resources are there so use them.
