I was wondering who covers Abilene, TX? It's a decent-sized town with references made to Guardian and a company called MetroCare- does anyone have any information about these employers?

My buddy works Abilene Fire. He said its currently Metro as the transporting ambulance, but there's some dissatisfaction with their performance. Abilene fire is apparently in the process of training up medics to take over 911 transport, which shouldn't be too much longer.

Ahhh, the old "better fast cheaper" argument? Ask KCFD how that's working out for them...

It looks like they've been trying since 2007 at least, and haven't yet gotten around to it.

I'd prefer South Texas, but I could deal with Central Texas. I wonder what they pay?

Not sure how long they've been trying. I know that they are finishing up new protocols geared towards transport, and that they will finish a new class of paramedics late June/early July.

I'll ask and see if he knows what their pay is.

The Mayor of Lubbock is trying the same thing this week, which is funny since the FD has even said they don't want it.

Someone needs to educate the mayor that the only reason FD has faster response times is because they have more than twice as many units, and spend no more than a few minutes on a medical call before clearing, unlike the transport unit which can be tied up for over an hour even on basic calls...

But that would take common sense, which politicians lack.

Its definitely an option.

Guardian has some of the rural counties around Abilene. It's the guardian from around here so beware what you're getting into.

Metrocare is kinda meh according to some former Metrocare medics.

I would love to work in Abilene and be out in that part of Texas though.

Forshadowing? ;)

No worries Shfd, I'm still preferring Acadian. Abilene actually came up in my mind from KHEY playing the song.

if an oppurtunity ever came out that way I would be gone so fast. Wide open spaces, 4 seasons-Id love it.

I have a new friend that has been talking about Alaska and after watching the coast guard show on the weather channel that looks neat as well.

I wonder what they pay.

Yep. Knowledge is power.
