So I am studying to become an emergency medical responder in montreal, quebec and the service Im with gives us the opportunity to do observer shifts. so i worked a double from 8 am to midnight on saturday, and boy did i actually get to see just about everything ive been training for (and some that I havent) so it was amazing. normally we only get a few calls per shift, but i gopt to respond to 10 calls, and do spinal immobilization, bwm with an opa, take a bp, and learnt stuff we havent covered yet like i took a blood glucose, and put on a 3 lead. was amazing because i learnt so much. we even had a fire call where unfortunately the casualty was DOA with severe burns to the chest neck and face.

There is nothing like being hands on!
We don't have clinicals as such in New Zealand.
As long as you have a current First Aid Certicate you can start
observer shifts with our ambulance service.
You can do as many as you like while you do your courses
(There are 3 to get to the first level).

Cheers Enjoynz

man your lucky you are allowed to take blood glucose, its the lamest thing that in Cali EMTs arent allowed to take blood glucose, specially when its such a simple test. But you shift sounds awesome, nothing beats the real first hand experiance.
