Feedback to EMS from ED physicians - another perspective

This thread is awfully disappointing. I read this article a few hours prior to discovering this discussion. There is a responsibility on both sides of the fence here to desire more from EMS providers. I find it troubling that so many on this forum seem to have "written off" what is...

Good EMT and Paramedic School in Saint Louis, MO

I would highly recommend the EMT Program at Florissant Valley under Ken Frederickson or the EMT Program at St. Charles County Ambulance District. The Paramedic program at SCCAD is in my opinion, the best in the state. If you have more specific questions pm me.

What do you carry? - The mega thread

I carry a stethoscope, hangs out in the truck when not on calls. Other than that, its my wallet and phone. I keep my keys in my station bag. Anything else I've ever needed is provided by my employer and kept on the ambulance.

Are EMS Providers Adequately Trained to Deal with Psychiatric Emergencies?

A few friends in law enforcement routinely state that "your best weapon is your voice." This quite obviously applies to EMS. I voted no in this poll, but I'm not entirely certain there is significant value in training providers in therapeutic techniques, whereas there probably is significant...

    Stopping CPR w/ V-fib?

I dont think it came out the opposite of the way you intended, I read it as youve explained. With that being said, let us not forget that most often cardiac arrest in the prehospital environment has many similarities to the way the episode is managed in hospital..I suppose that is sort of...

    Stopping CPR w/ V-fib?

To say that the physicians in the ED you are referring to blindly follow ACLS algorithms would quite obviously be an insult to their incredible ability as clinicians. With that being said, there are many similarities in the way cardiac arrest is managed in the ED as compared to the field...

Tell Me and I Will Forget (Paramedic Documentary)

While listening to the "PHARM" podcast at prehospitalmed.com, or perhaps it was Emcrit..One of the guests discusses his experience working as a physician in one of the busy trauma facilities. Specifically interesting was the description of some of the simple, ingenious ways they go about doing...

    EMT-B/Paramedic in St. Louis, MO--advice??

I took the EMT program through STLCC FV, and then the Paramedic Program at SCCAD. I completed an AA in Life Sciences and I am currently working on a Bachelors degree while working full time as a medic. I do not have experience with IHM, or any other EMS training entities in the area except...

Use of clot busting drugs in cardiac arrest

That is my understanding as well. I could be mistaken, but I recall regarding a study at one point that concluded it was unclear whether medication administered through a peripheral IV ever actually reached the heart.

    Kansas City EMS

Dont write off any specific organization without doing your own research first. Frankly, the majority of opinions on this forum regarding this specific issue are generated without first hand knowledge, but instead from postings online and second hand accounts. Im not defending any specific...

Ever had a partner you can't trust??

Im seeing both sides here, and I believe that everything I could say has been said. Effectively, the OP is stating that he elected to collar this pt because the guidelines under which he provides care state that he is required to. At some agencies, those guidelines are a bit flexible. If...

    CPAP vs intubation for CHF

What medicsb said imo. I think a trial of CPAP is warranted if at all possible, but this pt does appear to be deteriorating and I cant question the judgement of someone else without having more information and/or being there.

    Hello from Kansas City!

I have to agree with you Aidey, people make it appear that paramedics are incapable of performing BLS care, although I would argue that we could all stand to be better at providing basic care.

    ambulance driver

I never understood why people get hurt by being called an "Ambulance driver." There are far larger issues with WHY we are being called ambulance drivers as compared to being hurt by the term.
