The first one Sheriff was already on scene supposedly with Co FD (turns out FD wasn't there, but we were told over tac they were...major snafu).
Second one we didn't have a staging order and FD was already up there.
No joke...
In six months of working in EMS I have been on TWO separate calls now that were declared safe but turned into ACTIVE shooters. First one I was cleared by Co FD (I posted about this one) and rolled on scene just as a guy got drilled w/a 9mm through the leg. The second (two weeks ago)...
One of the two Asian-AllStars. I'm Korean with a German last name (adopted), and my partner is Japanese with an Italian last name (by marriage), and both of us are 100% twinkie: Yellow on the outside, white on the inside, with a long shelf-life.
I responded 2nd unit to a freeway MVA. An IFT-only ambulance with an unstable, ALS pt still-alarmed the call, placed a c-collar on the driver of one of the vehicles and walked away. However they did not leave the scene, their patient seized, went into arrest, and died enroute from the scene to...
What I don't understand is that ALL the LA City DOT wants is proof of employment and proof of a current CA Ambulance DL. They don't require additional testing or training, it is merely permission to drive/attend within city limits. In other words pure revenue.
1. I'm 21, the average age I would say is 20-25. My current partner is 19.
2. About to be engaged, my relationship has actually grown stronger since joining EMS. She's a strong person.
3. Drink about one to two drinks on my 3-4 day weekends. Smoke occassionally but never while on duty.

Bored...
been sitting at the same post for 9+ hours without a single call. Most exciting thing has been going to the gas station for a soda. 2.75hrs to go...
Glad to find a kindred spirit here.
For me: Speed shooting, long distance rifle, varmint hunting, NSCA (National Sporting Clays Association), Trap, Skeet, and just heading off to an abandoned quarry or canyon for a day of plinking.

Love the topic idea.
Favorite carbonated beverage...beer. Kind of a beer snob though...only microbrews (at least until I reach the point where I don't care).
I'm on duty, posted in some lonely little parking lot. Spending most of my 1-call-on-average-nights wondering why I settled...
Who honestly believes they will actually have time to deploy a weapon when they are in as close proximity to the pt as they are? Coming from law enforcement and a military background (went 4F/medically disqualified, long story, but that's how I ended up in EMS) it was unnerving to get within two...

Didn't they teach you in EMT school that HIV from needlesticks occurs 0.3% of the time? Get your Hep-B shot, that reduces risk by 90% I believe. If I am wrong someone please correct me. Hep-C risk by needlestick is less than 2%. I am unsure of the percentages for MRSA but typically...
Idk if I'm echoing every other post here or what...but personally I like to have a big@$$ engine angled behind me on any TC (MVA). I'm from a huge metropolitan area. Holding c-spine by yourself, w/your rig parked in front of the TC, you can feel pretty isolated and exposed in the middle of a...
Viva la Mexico
74yo 350lb male c/c difficulty breathing demanding to be allowed to urinate. We pulled over, sat him up, handed him the pee jug, and listened for the next five minutes to "I can't find it I can't find it oh dear god i have to piss so bad can you help me? can you see it? am I...
True story
We chose to broadcast our relay to dispatch instead of calling the hospital ourselves. This was too good to pass up. The entire operation heard this one haha.
"456, we are 10-15 code 2 code 4 'Random'-Hospital. Code 1 for relay."
-Dispatch, "56 go ahead."
"456, we have a...
Some of our rigs have Fire's tactical channel on scanners, but this was a 2001 model so it didn't. If Fire managed to contact dispatch we obviously couldn't hear anything from them. We are not on the LE bands out here.
The LLEA (in this case county sheriff) has a reputation for being subpar. The four shifts that work second half of the week, nights, are mostly rookies hired within the last six months. My partner turned 18 in august, has just begun to shave (literally) and has frozen up four times in the last...
