Should EMS Receive Discounted Airline Tickets?

I wonder if they would bump us up to first class if we are in our uniform? Just so everybody knows I'm an EMT.

    Managing patients with phyciatric issues

That would be nice. Ive been trying to look for stuff on google but I don't know where to start. I am not trying to be a coucelor, just trying to be adequate enough to comfort and hopefully lead them in the right direction.

    Managing patients with phyciatric issues

Well this particular patient ran away from the rehab center and went to her relatives house, stole the drugs out of the cabinet. Idk, I just had a very hard time convincing her of going back to the hospital. I feel like if I knew more about mental disorders and had some counseling techniques, i...

    Managing patients with phyciatric issues

Had a patient today who has been in and out of rehab for drug abuse. Patient has had suicide attempts and has OD'd a few times. This patient has some obvious mental issues and is seen by behavioral health specialists. Because of my lack of experience, I usually feel useless and don't know how...

Premeds I want to hear your story.

@medicsb Hopefully I can be as successful as you are in the coming years. EMS and just working in multiple fields of medicine has made me want to pursue medical school. You said, "I wanted to know more, do more, and call the shots for the most part". That perfectly describes my hunger for more...

Premeds I want to hear your story.

@rescue1 I am not really worried about my GPA, it is the MCAT that I am worried about since i honestly dont know what to expect. My plan is to apply to med school if and when I get a 509+ You mentioned DO school, I understand they are not as competitive. You mentioned for residencies that...

@Gurby I will definitely start using Anki. I definitely have the issue of forgetting a lot of information over the summer...

Damn haha, you mean to tell me that you don't like converting moles to grams?? lol. I love learning about even the basic of the sciences (as long as it can relate to medicine or the human body). The part where I struggled the most was freshman bio where the part of the course was environmental...

@Summit no wonder why the all mighty google couldn't find the source...Thanks! I'll defiantly dig up some of the older posts.

Premeds I want to hear your story.

The only thing that I am absolutely scared about is the MCAT. I honestly don't know what to expect. Ive already briefly gone through the section kaplan books for the classes Ive taken (gen chem, bio, physics), but still don't have a good grasp. After I graduate from my undergrad, I plan on...

Premeds I want to hear your story.

@Grimes when I was graduating HS, i never would have thought in a million years that I would be even trying to be a doctor. I kind of was forcefully into patient care when I signed the contract to become a corpsman. In less than an year after graduation, I worked in an ICU, and even did some...

It certainly is competitive, but not that competitive...I don't know a single person who has a 4.0 GPA in college, although they do exist, they either go to an easy school or are just geniuses. For OHSU, the acceptance rate for in-state applicants is like 20%. Other states have similar numbers

PA school is an awesome option. From my understanding though, the science pre-reqs are pretty similar to medical school. So id imagine you'd have to do those classes in addition to your degree.

Premeds I want to hear your story.

Ive noticed some of you on the forum are trying to become doctors. What is your story? Why do you want to become a doctor? Has being in EMS influenced your choice of becoming a doctor? Also, if you still work and go to school (undergrad), how do you balance the two?

    Documentation Policy

That is exactly what I said. Guess who is hated by the supervisor and the billing dept the most? I do ignore it. It sucks because all of the fresh EMTs that come out of my supervisors class likes to put O2 on everything, regardless of respiratory status. I do my best to teach them and actually...

    Documentation Policy

Our only policy is to make sure the call is billable. We have a set of policies that we "must" do and document. One example is that patients cannot "walk to the ambulance." Even if they are completely ambulatory/healthy, it is our policy so we can get paid. Another one is O2 administration...

    EMS driving jobs overnight?

You can still care. But if your interest is truly "making the most amount of money the easiest way possible," the medical field is not for you. EMS is not an easy job and in no means pays well. Just getting into EMS because of the money, with the poor attitude from the beginning is not a smart...

    EMS driving jobs overnight?

Choose another field, you wont be making much as a driver anyways. You don't deserve to be around the sick and injured. You will be dealing with people during the worst times of their lives and often those people have no choice of who takes care of them. Everybody deserves to have the best...

    AEMT vs EMT-I

Correct, basically ACLS minus a few drugs like adenosine or mag.
