Another U.S. Paramedic with Australia questions

Ok but in states where they don't run an ambulance service, all money sold from first aid kits goes back into the organisation for equipment and logistical purposes. Believe that I think that there should be a government run service in WA and NT, and in fact in every city. Please provide some...

There is a difference. We are volunteers. Are they not full time paramedics in New Zealand? downunderwunda, you seem to be anti St John, why is that?

It's called covering our behinds, lol. Wish it wasn't necessary either. I figured that would let you tag along with a paramedic (or another HCP) attached to St John as they often let students of HCP tag along with the HCP counterparts. In fact I'm was paired with a nurse one duty.

Have not completed First Responder yet, but by late Nov, it will be done, I'm so excited :). I have done certificate in Adv resus including AED :). Backing me up? We can be partners on a defib team (well after January at least)! unless you get assigned to HCP Paramedic team at an event.

That being said, I actually believe that GTN can only be administered to some one who has been prescribed it before or by a doctor. I also belive that 2 meds accredited people need to be present to administer either GTN or Penthrane. I will check into it on my next duty, which might be Brittany...

Another U.S. Paramedic with Australia questions

Sorry downunderwunda, haven't done the course so I don't know, by the time I'm eligible to do the medications course, hopefully I will have Completed a Bachelor of Emergency Health (Paramedic) or another paramedic course at a different Uni anyway. The First Responder course is (as I understand...

Another U.S. Paramedic with Australia questions

Why not? As long as people are trained to use the drugs and follow the protocols, I don't see why those drugs can't be given, especially if it can take paramedics sometime to reach a patient due to the size of some locations as well as navigating ambulances through traffic, specifically at major...

Another U.S. Paramedic with Australia questions

Victoria only accepts uni grads now and I hear other states are looking to do the same. I believe I read Queensland is the easiest for overseas but I'm not really sure where I read it or if it's true. NT is private (again St John and they seem to be better). I'm just suggesting that it's...

Another U.S. Paramedic with Australia questions

Queensland looks like it has the best way to get into for overseas people with experience, plus you might get a chance to work on the Gold Coast. But there are problems with some areas as there is very heavy traffic on the Gold Coast in summer. I have heard of a victim in cardiac arrest who...

"What every EMT should be required to experience before they graduate".

Not sure if any one wrote this or if it's possible to do, but maybe a mock mass casualty situation, especially for urban type areas, city departments. I know I'm just a newbie (training to be First Responder and hopefully next year, I can start going for the paramedic course) but triage is...

Dumbest thing heard on the radio

Cadets most times get to use the radios and we think one of them was accidentally keying it every so often so the dispatcher says, I hear voices in my head. The team leader at the FAP I was stationed at happened to be a nurse in a Psych Ward. The nurse proceeds to ask the dispatcher over the...

LEO Refuses to do CPR on Child Drowning Victim... Right or Wrong?

I know some states (at least in Australia) such as New South Wales have a Sorry I meant that a policy change should be made to ensure all PD cars are equipped with a first aid kits, Even if it's just a basic small kit in the boot. Just curious but is it better to do chest compressions then...

LEO Refuses to do CPR on Child Drowning Victim... Right or Wrong?

As far as I'm aware LEOs carry first aid kits and if they don't, they should. They just need basic stuff that can help until EMTs arrive. This should include personal barriers to protect officers while administering CPR. While I can understand the officer not wanting to risk his health, that...

Woman becomes real 911 call after a false one.

I am familiar with the garage door industry as I do odd jobs here and there (media/computer) with a company that makes operators and doors as well as work closely with the directors. There are safety systems in place to prevent a garage door crushing some one, however these are optional (at...

    Paramedics put down Pit Bull

Police were on scene and had the dog restrained while it was still locked onto the arm of the patient/casualty/victim. RSPCA is not the quickest organisation around here and they could of been waiting for a long time, up to an hour if not more. Considering the dog would have been put down...

    Paramedics put down Pit Bull

Was going to post this, I was a little late I heard it was midazolam, from another paramedic. I also read something saying that the drug used, is only carried by MICA Paramedics and is used to cause paralysis or to put a patient in a coma after major trauma however you know the media doesn't...

Northfield ambulance's doors glued shut (New Jersey)

Disgusting, makes it harder to access equipment that may have been necessary to save a person's life. It remind me of a time when some idiot broke into an airport and slashed the tires on the entire Air Ambulance fleet. There should be tougher laws on damage to emergency vehicles.

    Ambulance Strike

They won http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/849007/vic-paramedics-strike-11th-hour-deal My understanding was that between the 2 night shifts paramedics would work over time and not have time for a proper break

    Ambulance Strike

I'm pretty sure its and I think this is what you want to know, Day 1: 10 hour day shift Day 2: 10 hour day shift Day 3: 14 hour night shift Day 4: 14 hour night shift Day 5-8: Rest but the thing is they have to often work over time and then they are very tired for the next shift. Especially...
