How can I make my resume stand out?

St. John's college in queens offers a paramedic program. No experience required. Apply for FDNY EMS as soon as a filing period opens up at www.nyc.gov/DCAS. People will tell you they pay less and blah blah blah but take my word for it not everything is measured in the money you take home.

    fdny emt civil service exam

It was a job for me. I'm past the phase of excitement when you are new and eager. Never said I don't enjoy EMS. It's tattooed on my arm.

    Catch them young: EMS toys

They also make you an EMT. Not a fireman. You have to get past about 40,000 people on the civil service list if you would like to be a fireman.

    Catch them young: EMS toys

The actual reason for that is because you need to be 18 in NY to take the EMT certifying exam.

Sort of... Technically it led to my path into EMS.

    fdny emt civil service exam

Enjoying your job is great but it is a MEDICAL profession. (Or should be anyway) Trauma essentially entails scooping a person up and taking them to the right facility. At both the ALS and BLS level management capabilities are minimal. BLS is basically backboard and bleeding. Seen one bad one...

    fdny emt civil service exam

Came in to post my usual reply to this question but Anjel did it for me. Thanks ^_^ Side note, as Tigger said, EMTs should not just to stick to trauma. You may as well classify yourself as a taxi driver who takes vitals if that is what you wish to do. In NYC, as a medic, you will run less...

    Volunteers?

Some, not all, volunteer organizations sometimes tend to focus more on department/organization events and parties more than improving upon the services they provide. What sets volunteer and paid agencies apart is that paid agencies usually focus on their responsibilities and train/practice...

    Responding and Transporting Code 3

Nope I don't feel helpless. Thankfully for me it is not up to the patient or family how I decide to drive. If I felt it warranted, I may proceed through the light in slow and controlled manor. No... Not really sure what else to answer that with but a no. You have a what if to...

    Responding and Transporting Code 3

Why is it unnecessary? Haf an hour, maybe. But most lights/sirens trips save 1-3 minutes depending on where you are.

    Responding and Transporting Code 3

Allow me to offer the opposite end of that spectrum. "Haste makes waste." We are professionals (hopefully) and professionals don't get excited/high strung over certain events in which they are expected to have seen before and know how to do their job for. We don't rush to get the job done at...

EMT-B with EKG and IV certificatiin better job odds more pay???

I can't speak for everywhere but in the vast majority of places further certifications unless required do not really enhance your desirability or payscale. For the most part in EMS its either EMT, some intermediate level or paramedic.
