Preventing Patient Care. Because seat belts are so easy to release. Thoughts?

    BLS - Basic Office Equipment

All of that seems reasonable... Why are you waiting for EMS, if their response time is double the time to a hospital?

    MA EMT Recert help

Whoa there! Calm down, punctuation is your friend. MA OEMS is piloting a new recertification scheme called the National Core Competency Program, along with a new computer system for tracking state certifications (eLicensing). There's been a lot of confusion, but they've laid out the process...

EMS agencies that pay for employees to attend paramedic school

Many fire departments in my area do this... and in some cases, there is no obligation after school (although generally they are civil service departments which are difficult to get on).

    Bougie storage

Interesting... we've also had trouble with bougies stuffed in bags, bent or malformed. The only reasonable solution I can seem to find is the pocket bougie, which is designed to be curled up and maintain none of the shape (although the curve makes it easier to use alone and compliments the coude...

    Brewster Ambulance Service: Drug Testing

Be prepared, as an EMT in MA to measure blood glucose levels, administer meds using an autoinjectoir, and give naloxone with a nasal atomizer. I hope as you get experience, you grow comfortable enough to use these needles.

    Brewster Ambulance Service: Drug Testing

If you are referring to the Brewster Ambulance in the Boston area, it is generally a urine tox screen, at an occupational health facility.

    STEMI transfers

Unfortunately I have as well. My region's understanding is that if the patient becomes unstable (or less stable at any time), we can divert to the "closest appropriate" facility. Of course, OLMC should be involved, if at all possible... As hospital consortia grow, and EMRs grow more...

What to wear for skills test?

O I'd err on presenting yourself as professionally as possible, while remaining mobile/practical. I'd go for a nice button down shirt and tie. Or wear a suit and bring a practical change of clothes. You never know who you're going to intact with, and first impressions matter.

The public would be shocked if they knew...

The disparate ways emergency medical care is provided. That the standards for dispatch, primary response, availability of advanced life support, and QA oversight varies so greatly, and changes simply by crossing a city/town, county or state line. For all the "standards" out there, there are a...

    That's whack.

Can you be fired if you can't make it in to work due to weather?

I have some partners who normally commute to work via public transit others who travel hundreds of miles to work each shift. Neither of these is particularly practical now, so the employees are camping out in stations. They have planned appropriately, and the service has made accomodations for...

What do you guys detail your EMT vehicles with?

If you're detailing an EMS vehicle, i'd just make sure to disinfect the interior surfaces first with some powerful chemicals before making it look pretty. I'm a lot more worried about the MRSA growing on the door handles and floor than shiny chrome, at least at first. Make sure that whatever...

    EMT-A training in MA?

What do you mean you don't qualify for any medic programs?

    From CT to MA

Sorry to bring back this six-week old thread, but I want to correct you Tigger, quickly. @mdc92, as of July, 2013, you need to have an NREMT card in order to enter MA, they no longer accep reciprocity from other states. For more info, call OEMS, 617-753-7300

    EMT-A training in MA?

Let's clarify something here-- the difference between EMT-INTERMEDIATES (EMT-I'85 in MA) and ADVANCED EMTs (AEMTs). They are different. EMT-Is were used in central, western and southeastern MA in different capabilities, and as reflected above, the curriculum and skills for have not been updated...

    Amenities at Call Stations

... And think about whether you want to leave the spouse at the station unaccompanied if the ambulance goes out-- that may mean access to medical equipment/supplies/controlled substances. Who would be responsible if anything went wrong/missing? What would happen if there were a walk-up medical...

    DHS Investigation

I'm not going to comment on the clinical content of the investigation, but if you're working with a paramedic, the responsibility usually falls on them. Just make sure your documentation (PCR and incident reports) is consistent. If interviewed by the investigator, stay calm and consistent with...
