London Ambulance Service recruiting 250 medics from overseas

I think it's a combination of things... pay and respect are big ones.

    EMS systems similar to FDNY

Many of these are good services. Are you ALS? There are also the 3 DE County-based ALS services. Are you willing to do fire too? Look at MD/Metro DC. Fairfax is always hiring medics, and PGFD (MD) is hiring right now.

    EMT jobs in Philly?

I'd guess in the $10-$12 range, depending on EVOC. Check your PM's

    need boot recs

I have huge feet... I went with Haix, and haven't looked back. Have 2 pairs in rotation - First pair went back after about 2 years of daily use, then the rotation for the last 3+ years, and the others are back for refurb... Then the original pair will probably be due again. And I'll be good for...

    Anyone seen this documentary?

Great documentary. Burn is also amazing. And Paramedico was great too - saw it at Expo.

Anyone work for Durham county EMS?

Their new Director is Skip Kirkwood, formerly of Wake County. He's an EMS Manager that seems to "get it". If I was willing to pick up and move 1000 miles, I'd apply in a heartbeat.

    Ready for an unpopular idea?

So.... I just found this thread. This is a genius thread. How do we fix this?

Looks like PA is finally getting on the AEMT bandwagon.

The first class I know of starts this spring. I think you're gonna see 2 things when this goes live: 1) ALS services running some AEMT/medic trucks over medic/medic or medic/EMT. 2) BLS services going to the AEMT level (especially volunteer agencies) with a majority of their "AEMT-level"...

London Ambulance Service recruiting 250 medics from overseas

The standards link is here: http://www.hcpc-uk.org/publications/standards/index.asp?id=48 20 page document. Doesn't seem really difficult. There's the issue of a college degree, though.

    Communication with patients

I'll often start out with Sir/Ma'am with anyone older than me. I cringe at "dear". I try to learn my patients names and use them.

    NCEMSF Conference 2014 - Meetup/Roll Call

Hi everyone, NCEMSF's 2014 conference is in Boston in 2 weeks - 2/28-3/2. I'm presenting Friday evening, others members are presenting and/or attending. Looks like we might actually pull off the first official EMTLife conference meetup. Who's going to be there?

    Presentation Idea

Good idea. You choose it? Get selected? I'm presenting Friday night. You better find me.

    paramedic jacket conventions

Perhaps an American Flag opposite the State (or Registry) patch? Next time I have to buy a Job Shirt, that's what I'm doing. I've got a couple from old agencies that I can't wear anymore.

    Working in Qatar

Interesting, ExPat - that sucks. I saw them in Vegas and they seemed shady... wasn't sure how much of it was simply them being foreign. The folks I interacted with were simply "healthcare recruiters" and could tell me nothing of system or anything else. I didn't even bother.

Falck shuts Lifestar NJ bases in Totowa and Edison

SigOne, So I'm the one that started the thread, over a year and a half ago, that accused Falck of being the "900lb gorrilla no one knows about." Sounds like you've got an axe to grind against Falck. So I take it that LifeStar's Northern NJ bases were union. How about the 911 operations? Any...

Clipper, You missed two big ones: NAEMT http://www.naemt.org/advocacy/advocacy_home.aspx And Advocates for EMS http://www.advocatesforems.org/

    Civilian Air Force Medic

Some are GS-series (GS-6 or GS-7 for a entry medic). Some are contractors.

Correct, Sir. Including an EMS conference in Vegas and a competitive shooting match. :)

    Civilian Air Force Medic

I've interviewed for 2 Army civilian medic spots. They have pluses and minuses, but it's a federal career job. This posting is just for having a résumé pool. I know that Andrews AFB uses civilian contractors (I turned down a spot a year ago) in their ED with some EMS responsibilities.
