Advice for a new introverted EMT?

Guess what.... You probably will. You're new, that's OK. If you find you're working with someone who has a problem with that, find a different partner. I'm by no means an introvert, so I'm not sure I can be much help. Good luck, and tell us how it goes!

Stethoscope step up from classic II

Honestly, the classic II is a great scope. If you really want to upgrade the Master Classic is a little nicer. I use a cardiology III and a Master Cardiology... But I'm not sure the price is really worth it.

Pretty much. Mine is less frills... No side steps, and a HIGH 4x4. But handles well and doesn't complain.

My ambulance would beat up your ambulance. I've never had an ambulance that was uncomfortably tall before. Now I do. That said... I've already taken it places where a mere mortal ambulance would have gotten stuck.

2 Comments: First - Whats a "Full Arrest" - Is there such a thing as a partial arrest? Second - The monitor doesn't show a PULSE, it shows electrical activity. Pulse is something you can only sense.

    Best Psych Calls

Dalmain - what do you mean "best"? I've never had a "good" psych call. They are all sad and tragic in their own way. Even when I can find humor in them, it is black humor, and not something to joke about outside those involved in the call.

Here's what bothers me in the video... they were negotiating with him to walk out, and had him grab his stuff.... THEN they said "do it" released the dog, and hit him with less-lethal munitions. If they wanted him in cuffs, don't lie to the man and then change the rules in a flash. He...

    Anterior Ischemia or Syncope?

GoldCross: Just for the record - We aren't trying to gang up on you or make you feel bad... We are trying to help you keep your foot out of your mouth, especially at work.

Am I bad at lifting or just need practice?

Voyager... I think the biggest thing is practice. For many of us, working a stretcher is something we can do in our sleep, because I've done the muscle movements so many times. It becomes second nature once you've done it enough - it just takes time. Be careful, go slow, and think about what...

    Anterior Ischemia or Syncope?

What's an off-duty cardiologist? I didn't know they were ever "on duty" News flash. Doc wasn't in charge. He was probably just acting like it.

"Keep on-scene time < 20 minutes for medical"

I've heard this... often in line with the "10 minute scene time" for trauma patients. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's pure dogma, with no evidence behind it.

    Anterior Ischemia or Syncope?

OP: Sounds like a VERY textbook syncope call. So... you were off duty (attending church) and saw most of what was going on as an interested bystander? (given that you didn't even check the pulse yourself). I'd also suggest you familiarize yourself with the rules pertaining to onscene...

    Vehicle lighting

This isn't what you want to hear - but look at what all the old-time members have for lighting. If your department is anything like the volunteer department I ran at growing up, a bunch of 18-22 year old active members have cars with more lights than some of your apparatus. The senior...

    EMS systems similar to FDNY

Actually, it sounds like REMAC is just coming into what I've had in PA for the last 10 years (and that's STATEWIDE, and you're not even there yet), in that I can do MUCH without orders, but I still have protocols I must follow, and times where I need base command. The problem of "there are...
