    LifePak 12/15 Mount

When we did vent transports, for the trip from bedside to the rig we'd put the vent on the rack, and use the built-in hooks on the handle of the LP 12 to hang it on the siderail.

    LifePak 12/15 Mount

We're actually already doing that. One push of a button and the continuous EKG and vitals are uploaded into ePCR on the Toughbook :P

    LifePak 12/15 Mount

Also, we have to contend with the skirts (... I mean, Nurses) complaining about the potential for back injuries from lifting a 20lb monitor over a patient to place it in the mount... Out SCT rigs have the stretcher placed against the wall, and the interior has cabinets and a small counter in...

To ECG or not to ECG (opinion thread)

Again, this depends on the state. If we're dispatched as ALS along with a BLS unit, we will more than likely do a 12-lead if the call warrants it. If in the assessment we find no need for further ALS interventions, we can certainly release the Pt to BLS for transport. Don't get me wrong, I'm...

To ECG or not to ECG (opinion thread)

Not sure how the medical billing works in your state, but once you initiated ALS interventions (IV) it would be billed as an ALS transport. Had the line not been started, it probably could have been billed as BLS. We run 2 Medics on our transport trucks, and sometimes answer BLS dispatches...

EKG Tech certification requirements in NJ

Most hospitals will run a new ER Tech through an in-house EKG course. Basically it's just lead placement and capturing a clean EKG. A tech won't be reading or interpreting EKGs.

    LifePak 12/15 Mount

We also have to deal with the State of NJ, and the infinite wisdom from NJ OEMS... They recently said the stryker stretcher-mounted O2 holders which secure the tank with a pretty hefty Velcro strap are not considered crash-worthy, and will fail a truck on a spot inspection if one is found on...

Worst names for an ambulance service...

The name was mentioned a few posts back, but I still get a laugh from GEM ambulance. The slogan under the GEM title is "Going the extra mile..." I think it should have another line that reads: "...Because that's how we bill..."

Sort of a Fire question, but still public safety

If you think along those lines, we should be able to breathe underwater... You can't just separate liquid molecules like that.

    LifePak 12/15 Mount

Is anyone currently using a mounting system for the LifePak 12/15 in the back of their ambulances? We're currently researching different mounting methods in order to properly secure the monitor during transports. Currently, most crews end up placing it on the bench seat, or just hang it on...

    IV Pumps

We switched to Gemstars a year or two ago, and they're great. Each SCT unit got 4, and each ALS unit got 1.

    Portable Radios

I don't know of any state regulation that requires a portable radio. Technically, and NJ Licensed ambulance MUST have a mobile radio with the JEMS channels programmed, but it doesn't say anything about portables. I actually just took a new rig to trenton for the initial inspection last week...

    Radio batteries

I bought a Hi-Cap XTS2500 Battery from an eBay seller and it works great. Here's a link to the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110629461688?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

    Vent About Your Rig

Everything in our new series of trucks is perfect, with the exception of the POS Ram Mounts for the Toughbooks. There are much better options IMO.

    Electronic PCRs

We've been using Zoll ePCR for about a year, EMS Charts prior to that. When we used EMS Charts, we didn't have laptops. We would just get all the info we could, and write the chart back in quarters. Since moving to ePCR, we're 100% paperless for 911 calls. Consent signature is done on the...

    low flow o2 and vomiting

Ha... A certain ALS project near me didn't start carrying anti-emetics until about a year ago. And to top it off, most of the Medics that work there would absolutely blow a gasket if a squad requested them for N/V... ... And people wonder why I drive 45 miles to work elsewhere

    VHF Portable

VHF radios are all over eBay. If you want a Motorola radio, it's a bit of a process to legally obtain the software, and it's pretty expensive. Other brand radios have less expensive software if you want to program yourself, but I'm just a Motorola fan.
