Mercy Air helicopter severely vandalized with graffiti at Hesperia Airport

Aircraft was only down for 24 hours in which time a spare aircraft was moved to keep the base in service. Unfortunate but for anyone who knows the area, it’s not really surprising. Last time I was up there the helipad had 2 different security systems so the RCA on how this was allowed to...

Pittsburgh EMS, FD feud over response times and ‘hostile takeover’

Imagine having a job where you absolutely hate 90% of what you actually do on a day to day basis

    When to discourage transport

Holy flowcharts Batman. I don’t think I have ever seen that many in a single PDF

    I need some networking

Medics in an urgent care or in an ED is one thing but I don’t really see the point of having a medic in the ICU.

    Airway

If you were conscious would you be able to tolerate a king inside you? Or would you be gagging, feeling like you are choking, and be attempting to pull it out?

    IV fluid shortages

Yes to pretty much both of those. We do the majority of our ordering through McKesson. We will be given an amount of medication in their warehouse that is allocated to our company. We also utilize multiple suppliers on McKesson and Boundtree to get the best price and to also get whatever is...

    IV fluid shortages

The only Baxter IV fluid that I currently have on my shelf are NS 500mL bags. All my other fluid are B. Braun. I imagine we will see some limited supply from everyone having to order from non Baxter companies. We are pretty diversified as every medication and fluid that I order, there are...

    When to discourage transport

Your service or protocols should have a very well established/documented process for when patients want to refuse transport or sign out “AMA”. What your system probably does not have is guidelines for when you should tell a patient they do not need to go to the hospital. There are some systems...

EMS Provider Mental Health And Wellness

My company started a program last year called AirAnglers to help with mental health for those employees who need it or feel they would benefit from them. They get supplies sent to their home to make flies and make fly fishing rods. Then they are send to our corporate headquarters in Denver for...

    Book vs lecture

“The instructor of the EMT program at my agency” is all I really needed to hear. In my opinion all EMT and paramedic programs should be through a college/university and not an agency.

    100% Directionless Thread

I think it really depends on the specific person. I know plenty of medics who have been working for 20 years while running 10 calls during a 12 hour shift who love it. I also know medics who run 1 call in a 24 hour shift who absolutely love it. I went from that busy system of 10 calls in a 12...

    Pump management

Lots of carabiners. I put each medication bag on the same carabiner that the associating pump is on. Then I will usually attach those carabiners (3-4 pumps/medications) to a single carabiner. Then that single carabiner can get hooked on the stretcher or laid at the patients feet/legs. I don’t...

California Board of Pharmacy and fire fighters

I am not a firefighter but have been in CA and working EMS for the past 13 years and I have never seen any departments let alone heard about any using these. Must be some high class fire departments

    100% Directionless Thread

There is no actual paperwork for service animals, so in that aspect the paramedic could have a complaint filed against them for violating ADA. However, if the animal is not safe to transport then even if it is a service animal then one can justify not taking it. Emotional support animals are...

Experience with surface disinfectants in HEMS / FWAA

A division of my company builds and installs medical interiors in aircraft so we just consult with them. They said any of the commercially available healthcare wipes are perfectly safe to use. If we have to use a spray bottle they want us to spray the chemical on a rag and not directly on any...

Experience with surface disinfectants in HEMS / FWAA

We just wipe everything down in the back like you would in a normal ambulance. We, my company, were never authorized to use any sort of fogging machines in the aircraft as there was potential for that mist to get into sensitive areas of the aircraft and corrode electronics.

    Sapphire pump programming

I have only ever used them for TPA since it is a very specific amount of medication that needs to be administered. So if I just attach my own full set then the patient could be missing out on ~15mg that is left in the hospital’s full set which is a significant amount in the setting of TPA...
